Dr. Kenneth Harkin received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1989 from Iowa State University. He joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 1997 as a clinical instructor and became an assistant professor in small animal internal medicine in 1998. His research interests include infectious disease, with an emphasis on leptospirosis, canine dysautonomia, perianal fistula of dogs and chronic canine liver disease. His work includes improving the diagnosis of leptospirosis, evaluating the zoonotic risk associated with infected dogs and investigating pathogenic mechanisms of leptospiral infections. He is currently the faculty advisor to the student chapters of the American Animal Hospital Association and American Association of Feline Practitioners.
